take your internet browser wherever! (firefox2)

i have been recently taking firefox2 everywhere, i have it in my Kingston 2GB DataTraveller USB Flash Drive, i found through the web that Firefox can be portable, so i looked for it and found an old firefox1.5.x and its in a zip file which then you extract it anywhere on your FlashDrive.

Soon i found PortableApps.com and was amazed by it and i recommend it to everyone!

you can install the Standard Suite version, the Lite version, or the Base Edition.

  • Standard - has firefox, antivirus, instant messenger (supports yahoo, aim, irc, simple, msn, qq, jabber, icq, groupwise, gadu gadu), openoffice (spreadsheet, word processor, presentation, also supports Micro$oft Office document files), sunbird (calendar/task manager), thunderbird (email client / auto download email from all your email accounts)
  • Lite -has all of the above except it uses abiword instead of open office, so you only have a word processor without presentation and spreadsheet. but i like using abiword better than openoffice-word processor.
  • Base Edition - choose this if you want to manually install each applications from portableapps.com

all of the applicationes from PortableApps.com are opensource so its all legally free to download, use.

here's my tips:

  • when you download the packaged version i think it only has firefox1.5.x so you then need to upgrade it but if you download BaseEdition, then you can install firefox2 manually, its easy!, but you will have to download the BaseEdition and Firefox2 separately.
  • i recommend downloading the Lite version, coz its lighter!, but it also has the antivirus included, but then when you run firefox it will need to auto-update coz i think the firefox there is not firefox2.
  • all the settings you saved on that firefox is saved so you can theme you firefox, add add-ons, and customize it

ever heard of Google Browser Sync ?

its a firefox add-on. use it to sync all your firefox browsers from different computers. in this case use it in your Firefox-Portable and on your firefox at home. all the Cookies, Saved Passwords, Bookmarks[*Favorites* if your used to IE(internet explorer)], History, and Tabs and Windows. you can choose to sync all of these or or some of these and you an also encrypt them(for increased security). requirements? you have to install GoogleBrowserSync to your firefox at home and to your Firefox-Portable, and you also need to have a Google account(it is also the account you use in Gmail).

why firefox? coz its safer, customizable with add-ons(download add-ons from mozilla-firefox website), you can also install themes!, in school you can't delete the history in the school provided IE(internet explorer). you can take your settings, saved pages, session (currently open tabs, save session, and continue when you start firefox again) anywhere. and its free!. when using the school computer and the teacher cuts the power coz everybody's not listening, what you are doing in firefox is saved automatically so you can resume after the ower is back on.

open suse + compiz fusion

July 11, 2007

this is a video of OPEN SUSE + COMPIZ FUSION

the link below will take you to UBUNTU ULTIMATE but it will let you have the same features as shown in this video.

http://ubuntusoftware.info/Ubuntu_Ultimate_CD

the link below will take you to the new SabayonLinux, it is preinstalled with Compiz Fusion and this OS supports a wider range of devices/drivers, it uses anaconda installer from fedora/redhat, comes with halo, and other preinstalled games. its just way much cooler than ubuntu, in my opinion.

http://sabayonlinux.org/

in ease of use, use ubuntu. ubuntu is debian based (update is easy, updates everything altogether, its easier to learn), and sabayon is gentoo based (unlike ubuntu, updates are not limited to the OS version, so when you update, you select what to update), but i think sabayon is cooler.
